CHILD-FRIENDLY SELF‑ERECTED BARRIERS!
2 Corinthians 10:5 GNT
We pull down every proud
obstacle that is raised against the knowledge of God; we take every thought
captive and make it obey Christ.
Sometimes the biggest
problems in our walk with God are not the things happening around us, but the
walls we build inside our hearts. These walls grow slowly — from fear, worry,
pride, hurt, or wanting to stay in control. But these walls can stop us from
hearing God and following Him fully.
In Numbers 13–14, the
Israelites were ready to enter the Promised Land. God had already promised it
to them. But they built a wall of fear. They said, “We are too small… the
giants are too big.” God never called them grasshoppers — they called
themselves that. Their fear stopped them from obeying God.
Sometimes we build walls of self‑protection. Like the woman
at the well in John 4, we hide our hearts because of past pain. But Jesus
gently breaks those walls and brings healing.
Another wall is pride —
thinking we don’t need help. King Saul did this in 1 Samuel 15. He obeyed God
halfway and made excuses. Pride made it hard for him to hear God.
We also build walls of shame,
like Adam and Eve in Genesis 3. They hid from God, even though God still loved
them. Shame makes us run away when God wants us to come close.
And sometimes the wall is overthinking.
Abraham obeyed God even when he didn’t know where he was going (Hebrews 11:8).
If we wait to understand everything, we may miss what God wants to do.
The good news is this: God
can break every wall we build. He wants to bring us into freedom, joy, and
purpose — but we must open our hearts to Him.
