CHILD-FRIENDLY STONEY TO FLESHY HEART!

Ezekiel 36:26 TLB

And I will give you a new heart-I will give you new and right desires-and put a new spirit within you. I will take out your stony hearts of sin and give you new hearts of love.

 

There is a quiet and beautiful miracle God wants to do in every child and every believer: He wants to change a hard heart into a soft heart. This is not just about behaving better. It is about God gently touching our hearts and making them alive, warm, and able to feel His love again. God Himself promises, “I will take away your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.”

A stoney heart is not always a “bad” heart. Sometimes it is a heart that is tired, sad, or hurt. Sometimes it is a heart that has been disappointed. Sometimes it is a heart that keeps busy on the outside but feels far from God on the inside. A stoney heart can still pray, sing, or go to church, but it struggles to feel close to God.

But here is the good news: God does not get angry at a stoney heart. He comes close to heal it. He does not shame us—He helps us. He does not tell us to fix ourselves—He asks us to trust Him.

Pharaoh had a hard heart in Exodus. He saw miracles but refused to listen to God. His story teaches us that a hard heart can say “no” to God even when God is speaking clearly.

David, on the other hand, had a soft heart. When he did wrong, he said sorry quickly (Psalm 51:17). When he was confused, he asked God for help (1 Samuel 30:8). A soft heart is not perfect—it is willing.

The disciples felt their hearts “burn” again when Jesus talked to them (Luke 24:32). 

Saul became Paul when Jesus changed his heart completely (Acts 9).

God softens our hearts through His Word, His presence, His love, and through people who help us grow.

• Where has your heart felt sad, tired, or closed? 

• Is there something that made your heart feel hard? 

• What is one way you can open your heart to God this week?

PRAYER: Lord, please touch every hard place in my heart. Make my heart soft, warm, and open to You. Help me feel Your love and follow Your voice. Make my heart fully Yours. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
