IT BELONGS TO MY FATHER!
Psalm 24:1-10 AMPC
The earth is the Lord's, and
the fullness of it, the world and they who dwell in it. [2] For He has founded
it upon the seas and established it upon the currents and the rivers. [3] Who
shall go up into the mountain of the Lord? Or who shall stand in His Holy
Place? [4] He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who has not lifted himself
up to falsehood or to what is false, nor sworn deceitfully. [5] He shall
receive blessing from the Lord and righteousness from the God of his salvation.
[6] This is the generation [description] of those who seek Him [who inquire of
and for Him and of necessity require Him], who seek Your face, [O God of]
Jacob. Selah [pause, and think of that]! [7] Lift up your heads, O you gates;
and be lifted up, you age-abiding doors, that the King of glory may come in.
[8] Who is the King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in
battle. [9] Lift up your heads, O you gates; yes, lift them up, you age-abiding
doors, that the King of glory may come in. [10] Who is [He then] this King of
glory? The Lord of hosts, He is the King of glory. Selah [pause, and think of
that]!
Psalm 24 opens with a
declaration so bold, so sweeping, and so absolute that it resets our
understanding of ownership, authority, and identity: “The earth and everything
belongs to God!
Genesis 1 says God created
the earth, so it legally belongs to Him, even with Satan acting like master of
the universe.
This is not exaggeration. It
is a legal statement. A spiritual constitution. A reminder that everything
visible and invisible—land, nations, systems, resources, seasons, and
souls—belongs to God by right of creation and sovereignty. When David penned
these words, he was not merely admiring nature; he was proclaiming the
Fatherhood and Kingship of God over all things.
The Father owns everything
by creation. Verse 2 continues, “For He founded it upon the seas and
established it upon the waters.”
Ownership flows from origin.
God owns the earth because He made it. He spoke light into existence in Genesis
1:3. He shaped humanity from dust in Genesis 2:7. He stretched out the heavens
like a curtain says Isaiah 40:22. Nothing in creation is self‑made; everything is God‑made.
When you know something
belongs to you, you know no one can take it from you. This means, no territory
is too dark for His light. No system is
too broken for His restoration. No life is too lost for His mercy.
When you say, “It belongs to
my Father,” you are not making a sentimental statement—you are declaring a
spiritual reality backed by Scripture.
The Father owns everything
by sovereignty! God’s ownership is not passive; it is active. He governs what
He owns and Psalm 103:19 says, “The Lord has established His throne in heaven,
and His kingdom rules over all.”
This means the Father is not
an absentee landlord. He is the reigning King. His authority extends over:
Kings and kingdoms according to Proverbs 21:1, wealth and resources according
to Haggai 2:8, time and seasons according to Daniel 2:21 and life and breath
according to Acts 17:25.
Even when the world looks
chaotic, God’s sovereignty remains intact. The earth may shake, but the throne
does not. Never!
If the Father owns
everything, that includes me—then I belong to Him.
Psalm 24 is not only about
creation; it is about relationship. The God who owns the earth also claims us
as His children.
Isaiah 43:1 declares, “Fear
not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are Mine.” That's
it! I belong to the Father.
To say, “It belongs to my
Father” is also to say “I belong to Him.”
And belonging brings identity, security, inheritance, and purpose.
Jesus reinforces this in
John 10:29: “My Father… is greater than all, and no one can snatch them out of
His hand.” You are held by the One who owns everything.
Since it belongs to my
Father, I can approach Him.
Verse 3 then shifts from
ownership to access: “Who may ascend the hill of the Lord?
Who may stand in His holy
place?” Not just anyone or everyone, not those who are perfect, but those who
are purified as stated in verse 4: “He who has clean hands and a pure heart…”
Through Christ, we are made
clean according to Hebrews 10:22.
Through grace, we are
welcomed.
Through mercy, we are
sustained.
The One who owns everything
invites us into His presence—not as strangers, but as sons and daughters.
Because it belongs to my
Father, I can expect victory.
Psalm 24 ends with a
triumphant announcement: “Lift up your heads… that the King of glory may come
in!” according to verse 7.
The King of glory is not
weak. He is not intimidated. He is not defeated.
“The Lord strong and
mighty, the Lord mighty in battle.”
If the earth belongs to your
Father, then battles are not fought from fear but from confidence. You stand on
your Father’s ground. You pray from your Father’s authority. You expect your
Father’s outcome.
This is why David could face
Goliath.
Why Moses could confront
Pharaoh.
Why Esther could stand
before the king.
Why Paul could preach before
Caesar.
They knew: “This world
belongs to my Father.” And so do you.
