PIDGIN BARRIERS TO FAITH!

Hibru 11:6 “ Nobody fit make belle sweet God without faith, bikos anybody wey dey kom meet am, must bilive sey, E dey alive and E dey reward pipol wey dey find am si.”

Faith na essential part of Christian life, but even though faith na gift from God, dem still fit hinder, weaken, or block am. The biggest threat to faith no dey come from outside; more often, na inside barriers wey form for heart and mind. These barriers — like unbelief, fear, pride, shame, and depending too much on human reasoning — fit quietly limit our obedience to God and stop us from step into Him promises.

One of the clearest barriers to faith for Scripture na unbelief. The story of Israel for the edge of the Promised Land show this well well. For Numbers 13–14, God don already promise the land to Israel and show Him power through miracle for Egypt and wilderness. Yet when the spies say giants dey, the people respond with fear and disbelief. Their confession — “We no fit… we be like grasshopper for our own eye” (Numbers 13:31–33) — show inner barrier wey stand against God Word. Hebrews later explain that moment clear: “So we see say dem no fit enter because of unbelief” (Hebrews 3:19). The promise real, but unbelief become barrier wey delay faith from show.

Another common barrier to faith na fear. Fear dey disguise sometimes like caution or wisdom, but in the end e dey resist trust in God. Jesus often address fear among Him disciples, especially during moments wey require faith. When the disciples panic during storm for the Sea of Galilee, Jesus ask them why dem fear for Matthew 8:26. Fear and faith no fit rule heart at the same time; when fear get authority, faith go reduce. Fear build wall wey stop believers to take bold step of obedience, even when God don already talk.

Pride na another subtle but dangerous barrier to faith. Pride dey resist dependence on God and replace trust with self-reliance. King Saul downfall show how pride block obedience. For 1 Samuel 15, Saul obey God command halfway but justify himself to protect him reputation. When dem confront am, he admit say, “I fear the people, and obey their voice.” Saul inability to fully surrender to God instruction make God reject am as king. Pride always build wall between God voice and human heart, because God resist the proud according to James 4:6.

Very close to pride na the barrier of over-reasoning and mental strongholds. Even though God no dey against understanding, Scripture warn us make we no lift human reasoning above divine truth. Apostle Paul talk about “imaginations, and every high thing wey exalt itself against the knowledge of God” for 2 Corinthians 10:5. These mental barriers fit show as past disappointment, rigid belief system, or overanalysing God instruction. Abraham faith stand against this barrier; he obey God call, even though he no know where he dey go. Faith often require movement without full explanation.

Shame and guilt too dey work as strong barriers to faith. After Adam and Eve sin, dem hide from God — no be because God reject dem, but because shame distort their view of Am for Genesis 3:8–10. Shame convince believers say dem no qualify for God love or use. Yet Scripture assure us say condemnation no dey for those wey dey in Christ Jesus for Romans 8:1. When shame stay unchallenged, e build wall of distance and silence between believer and God.

Even with these barriers, Scripture still show God heart to restore faith. Jesus no condemn those wey dey struggle with faith; He invite dem come closer. To the papa wey cry, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief,” Jesus respond with compassion and power for Mark 9:24. This moment remind us say faith grow when we honestly bring our barriers to God instead of hiding behind them.

Barriers to faith real, but dem no permanent. Unbelief, fear, pride, shame, and over-reasoning fit form wall inside heart, but every wall fit come down by truth, humility, and surrender. God no dey demand perfect faith; He dey invite willing heart. When we allow Holy Spirit expose and remove internal barriers, faith go renew, obedience go easier, and God promises go become accessible again.
