PIDGIN GODLY UNDERSTANDING!

1 Kings 4:29 “God give Solomon betta wisdom, sense and en undastandin big well-well.”

 

Di Hebrew word for wisdom (\(ḥokmâ\)) mean skill—the God-given ability to live according to Him divine pattern, principle, and purpose. Wisdom na the right and righteous use of knowledge. But how person fit receive understanding? 

For Scripture, understanding get different shades of meaning, but di core meaning na intelligence, discernment, rational ability, and skilfulness. When God give Solomon wisdom, Him also pour deep reservoir of godly understanding inside him—a wide and spacious mind wey get supernatural help to comprehend, retain, organize, and communicate truth. 

Understanding na the power of di mind to perceive, to distinguish truth from lie, and to grasp divine reality. According to Job 32:8, true understanding no dey come from human intellect alone; na the breath of di Almighty dey give discernment. This mean say even the smartest human mind no fit get godly understanding without the Spirit of di Lord. 

Godly understanding na manifestation of supernatural wisdom wey God give to those wey dey seek Am. James 1:5 assure us say God dey give this wisdom freely, generously, and without reproach. Yet, He dey give am according to di measure wey our spiritual capacity fit receive—wisdom wey match our season, purpose, and divine assignment. 

One of the main ways to keep and grow for godly understanding na discipleship. Jesus make am clear say understanding of di mysteries of di kingdom dey given to His disciples—those wey dey follow, study, and obey Am; see Matthew 13:10–11, 51. Every believer get access to di privilege of understanding, but deeper mysteries dey entrusted only to those wey dey waka close to Am and fit carry revelation with humility and responsibility. 

Understanding no be just the gathering of knowledge; na ability to evaluate, interpret, organize, and apply truth. Psalm 111:10 teach us say wisdom and understanding dey linked to our character and conduct. Meaning say, godly understanding dey produce transformed life. 

Di Spirit of Understanding—one of di seven Spirits of God—dey open Scripture to us, dey make truth clear so that we fit apply am practically. 1 John 2:20 remind us say believers get “unction” or anointing from di Holy One, wey dey help us know all things wey necessary for life and godliness. Without Holy Spirit, knowledge remain intellectual; but with Am, understanding turn revelation. 

We often admire how some people sabi deep matters—even unbelievers—but Scripture clear: all true understanding come from God. Solomon receive more than wetin e ask for because God dey give according to purpose, no be preference. He dey distribute understanding with precision—never too little, never too much. He dey supply exactly wetin we required for the assignment, place, and season wey Him ordain. 

We still see example like Bezaleel for Exodus 31:3, wey God fill with Him Spirit and give extraordinary wisdom, skill, creativity, intelligence, and understanding. Him craftsmanship pass wetin him age and training fit produce because divine power dey inside am. 

Psalm 119:99 show us say meditation on God Word dey increase understanding reach level wey even pass our teachers. Meditation dey invite revelation, and revelation dey produce transformation. 

Finally, Godly understanding na God supernatural revelation—Him secret insight into Him Word and Him ways. Holy Spirit dey turn on light inside us, dey help us perceive spiritual truth clearly. No matter how much natural understanding person get, e no fit know God will without Holy Spirit illumination. 

Carnal understanding fit help us grasp information, but e no fit transform heart. Godly understanding, however, dey turn truth into life lesson, shape character, and align us with God will. E dey lift us enter realm of the Spirit where we fit really discern wetin God dey talk and do. 

Make we continue to seek this divine understanding, because na the key to waka in spiritual maturity, discernment, and divine purpose.
