PIDGIN THE HIDDEN POISONS THAT HARM THE SOUL!
Efesians 4:31–32
“Una must stop to get bad
belle; to dey vex; kworel and to dey tok bad-bad word. 32Make una dey good to
one anoda; dey sorry for pipol and dey forgive each oda, just as God forgive
una thru Christ.”
Bible dey teach us repeatedly
to forgive because the whole Christian faith stand on the forgiveness wey God
don show us through Christ. Yet many believers still dey struggle with
unforgiveness, noT knowing say e be spiritual and emotional poison. E no dey
destroy the person wey hurt us; e dey slowly destroy us. Dr. Martin Luther King
Jr. once talk say, “Forgiveness no be occasional act; na constant attitude.” If
God fit forgive our deepest sins, why we dey struggle to forgive others for
smaller offences?
Unforgiveness na one of the
enemy most effective weapon. Na deadly poison — whether you take am small small
or plenty plenty — and yet we still dey expect the other person make dem suffer
from the bitterness wey we dey carry. Jesus show this matter for Matthew
18:23–35, where the servant wey receive forgiveness refuse to forgive small
matter. Many times, the same things wey we no wan forgive other people for, na
the same things wey we ourselves don do and still dey expect grace for.
Unforgiveness affect body,
mind, and spirit. Many emotional and physical sickness don dey linked to
bitterness, stress, and unresolved anger. No be every sickness come because of
unforgiveness, but Scripture show say disobedience open door for affliction for
Israel (Deuteronomy 28:58–61). When dem return to God, He heal dem. Same way,
unforgiveness open door for spiritual heaviness, emotional pain, and physical
stress.
Unforgiveness dey show
itself for many ways. We dey replay old offences, keep mental list of wrongs,
and dey go back to painful memories like say e just happen yesterday. We dey
sitdown with “vintage bottle” of bitterness, dey sip am while we dey hope say the
offender go suffer. But forgiveness no be option — na command. Jesus teach us
make we pray, “Forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors” (Matthew 6:12).
Forgiven people must be forgiving people.
Another poison wey dey
weaken soul na slothfulness — laziness, idleness, and refusal to take
responsibility. Proverbs 21:25 warn say lazy person dey destroy himself. We dey
live for generation wey want reward without effort, blessings without
obedience, and success without sacrifice. President Roosevelt once talk say,
“No victory without sacrifice.” When dem not require from us, we no go learn to value anything. Many people don turn laziness into lifestyle, dey
depend on others while dem refuse to use the strength God give them. Proverbs
24:30–34 paint picture of life wey dey fall apart because of neglect.
Third poison na greed.
Jeremiah 6:13 say from the least to the greatest, everybody dey greedy for
gain. Greed na parent of many sins — lying, stealing, jealousy, and even
violence. E be form of idolatry because e dey place things above God. Greed
talk say, “I want everything. I no go share. I no dey satisfied. I no care who
suffer.” E dey blind heart and harden spirit.
Some religions openly talk
say forgiveness dey impossible. But for believer, forgiveness no only possible — na necessary. Life too short to dey drink from cup of unforgiveness, and eternity
too long to suffer the consequences of bitterness. God call us to release
others, not because dem deserve am, but because freedom na our
inheritance.
Forgiveness no dey excuse
the wrong. E dey free the heart.
Diligence no dey make life
easy. E dey make life fruitful.
Contentment no dey limit us.
E dey protect us from greed.
These poisons —
unforgiveness, laziness, and greed — dey destroy relationships, weaken faith,
and block spiritual growth. But God don give us the antidotes:
- Forgiveness, wey dey heal
the heart.
- Diligence, wey dey
strengthen life.
- Contentment, wey dey bring
peace.
Ephesians 4:31–32 call us to
put away bitterness, anger, and malice, and to be kind, tender-hearted, and
forgiving — just as God forgive us in Christ. When we obey this, we break the
power of poison and walk in the freedom wey God design for us.
Do yourself a favour —
forgive, rise, and live free.
