PIDGIN I WON’T HELP!

Judges 5:23 “God angel sey, ‘Make una curse Meroz pipol. Make curse follow dem, bikos dem nor gri help God pipol; dem nor kom fight for dem.’

I no go help! No be say I fit or maybe — na clear, strong no to helping people wey need help.

Dem dey remember everybody for something. You, wetin dem go remember you for? Hopefully no be “nothing,” like these people.

Judges 5:23 give one of the most serious warning for Bible: “Curse Meroz.” Cursed because dem do nothing!

This verse dey inside Deborah and Barak victory song after God deliver Israel from Sisera. While the chapter dey celebrate courage, obedience, and partnership with God, e still show one painful contrast — people wey refuse to help.

Dem no remember Meroz no for idol worship, immorality, or rebellion. Dem remember dem for doing nothing. Their sin na silence. Their failure na passivity. Their legacy na absence.

Wetin be your own sin?  Wetin be your legacy?

Heavy weight dey for withholding help.

The angel of the Lord Himself naim pronounce the curse. This show say to refuse to help for God work no be small matter. For Scripture, God dey rebuke not only wrong actions, but also the absence of right actions.

James 4:17 talk say, “If anyone know the good wey dem supose to do and no do am, na sin e be.”

Proverbs 3:27 warn, “No withhold good from those wey e belong to, when e dey within your power to act.”

Meroz get ability to help. Dem dey near. Dem get opportunity. But dem choose comfort over courage, neutrality over responsibility, and safety over sacrifice.

Them no speak their  “I no go help” loud, but heaven hear am.

Na only God get the final option, nothing else, because God notice who show up.

Judges 5 compare Meroz with tribes wey dey willingly risk their lives to help:

- Zebulun “risk their lives to the death” (Judges 5:18).

- Naphtali fight for the heights of the battlefield.

- Jael, one woman without military training, step into divine purpose with bold obedience.

God dey honour those wey show up, even when dem feel small or unqualified. He dey celebrate availability pass ability.

Jesus confirm the same principle for the parable of the Good Samaritan for Luke 10:25–37. Two religious leaders pass the wounded man, but the Samaritan — unexpected, overlooked — stop to help. Heaven still dey celebrate those wey step in when others step back.

Danger dey neutrality.

Meroz teach us say neutrality for spiritual battle no be neutral. When God dey move, standing aside na same thing as resisting Him. Jesus talk am clearly for Matthew 12:30, “Whoever no dey with me dey against me.”

Silence fit mean agreement. Inaction fit mean disobedience. Delay fit mean dishonour.

For Esther 4:14, Mordecai warn Esther say to refuse to act no go stop God plan, but e go cost her the privilege of being part of am. God purposes go still stand, but our participation determine our reward.

Wetin “I no go help” mean today?

We dey echo Meroz when:

- We see need but say, “Another person go do am.”

- We feel Holy Spirit dey prompt us to pray, give, serve, or speak, but we delay.

- We avoid involvement because e dey inconvenient, costly, or uncomfortable.

- We choose personal comfort over kingdom responsibility.

“I no go help” fit sound like: “I too busy.” “No be my calling.” “I no wan get involved.” “Make another person handle am.”

But heaven hear am differently.

The beauty of Judges 5 na say God no need human help, yet He still invite us to partner with Am. Helping the Lord no mean say God dey weak — e mean say we dey enter the honour of participating for His victory.

When we say “yes”: We grow, mature, experience God power, and become part of testimony wey big pass ourselves.

When we say, “I no go help,” we miss the miracle.
