PIDGIN PAINFUL BUT GAINFUL!
James 1:2–4 “My brodas and sistas, make una dey happy wen una dey face temptashon, 3 bikos una know sey, if una win di temptashon, una patient go strong.”
It get seasons for life when
pain dey feel like unwanted visitor — e no come with invitation, e dey uncomfortable,
and e no easy to explain. Yet Scripture boldly talk say the very things we dey
try avoid na the tools God dey use to shape us. James no talk “if” we face
trials, but “when.” Pain no mean say God absent; many times, na evidence say
Him dey refine us.
Pain no dey pleasant, but
for God hand, e always get purpose. The trials we dey face no random; na God dey
permit process wey dey produce something eternal inside us. James teach say
trials dey test our faith, and this testing dey produce endurance — that
spiritual stamina wey dey help person stand, stay, and grow. Endurance no dey
come from comfort but na pressure dey form am.
Think about Joseph. Him
journey full with betrayal, slavery, false accusation, and prison. Painful?
Absolutely. But gainful? Completely. Every painful step dey prepare am for
palace. Wetin look like setback na actually divine training. Joseph later tell him
brothers say, “You mean evil against me, but God mean am for good” for Genesis
50:20. Pain become the road to purpose.
Or look Hannah. Her many
years of barrenness full with tears, mockery, and deep sorrow. Yet inside her
pain, she pray — and her prayer bring forth Samuel, one of Israel greatest
prophets for 1 Samuel 1. Her pain push am enter deeper prayer wey produce
generational impact.
Even Jesus, our perfect
example, waka one painful but gainful path. Hebrews 12:2 talk say, “For the joy
wey dey before Am, He endure the cross.” The cross painful well‑well, but the gain na our salvation and eternal. If the Son of God
waka through pain to fulfil purpose, we no suppose dey surprise when God allow
us waka through refining seasons.
James dey challenge us to
count am all joy — not because the pain sweet, but because the end result go
good. Joy no be denial; na revelation. Na understanding say God dey work behind
the scene even when we no fit see am. Trials no dey reduce us; dem dey develop
us. Dem dey remove self‑reliance
and make us depend more on God.
Pain become gain when we
allow endurance to “get full effect.” Many believers want promise without
process, testimony without test, crown without cross. But spiritual maturity no
be microwave; e dey grow. God dey use trials to make us “perfect and complete,
lacking nothing.” That mean whole, stable, grounded, and spiritually
mature.
Sometimes the gain dey
inside — deeper faith, stronger character, purified motive, sharper
discernment. Other times the gain dey outside — open door, divine connection,
answered prayer, or new assignment. But for every case, God make sure say no
pain waste. Romans 8:28 assure us say “all things work together for good to
those who love God.” No be some things. Na all things.
Your current trial fit feel
heavy, confusing, or long. But heaven dey see the end from the beginning. Wetin
dey painful now fit be the very thing God go use to lift you, strengthen you,
or reposition you. The trial you dey face no be sign of defeat; na sign of
development. God no dey punish you — He dey prepare you.
So, hold on. Endure. Trust
the process. Make God finish wetin He start. The pain you dey feel today go
become the testimony you go share tomorrow. And when the gain finally show, you
go look back and say, “E painful, but e gainful. God dey work all the time.”
REFLECTION QUESTIONS
· Which
current or past trial feel painful, and how God fit take use am to produce
spiritual growth inside me?

areas of my character God dey strengthen through endurance — patience, faith,
humility, or trust?
· How
I fit change my perspective from frustration to faith, seeing my trials as part
of God refining process?
PRAYER: Father, thank You
for the assurance say every trial get purpose. Give me grace to endure, faith
