YOUR CHILD’S VOICE MATTERS!
2 Kings 4:6 AMPC
When the vessels were all
full, she said to her son, Bring me another vessel. And he said to her, There
is not a one left. Then the oil stopped multiplying.
There is a powerful truth
woven into the Scripture: that God listens to children, and heaven responds to
their voices as even Jesus instructs in Matthew 19:14 that children should not
be excluded from spiritual things. Our text says, “When the vessels were full,
she said to her son, ‘Bring me another vessel.’ And he said to her, ‘There is
not another.’ Then the oil stopped flowing.”
This verse is often read as
a miracle of provision—and it is. But hidden inside the narrative is a detail
many overlook: a child was present, participating, observing, responding, and
speaking at a critical moment of divine intervention. His voice mattered. His
words marked the turning point of the miracle. His simple statement— “There is
not another”—became the line that closed one season and opened another.
Children are not extras in
God’s story and kingdom!
Throughout Scripture, God
consistently honours the voices of children. They are not spiritual spectators.
They are not too young to hear God, too small to be used by Him, or too
inexperienced to carry spiritual weight.
Consider Samuel. As a child,
he heard God’s voice before the priest Eli did in 1 Samuel 3:1–10. God bypassed
the experienced and spoke to the tender-hearted.
Consider the little servant
girl in Naaman’s house. Her simple suggestion— “If only my master would see the
prophet in Samaria”—became the doorway to Naaman’s healing (2 Kings 5:2–3).
Consider the boy with the
five loaves and two fish. His offering fed thousands (John 6:8–11).
Consider Jesus Himself, who
welcomed children, blessed them, and declared, “Out of the mouths of babes and
infants You have ordained praise” (Psalm 8:2; Matthew 21:16).
God has always used children
to shift atmospheres, open doors, and release divine possibilities.
The Child in 2 Kings 4 was not
silent.
The widow’s son was not a
passive observer. He was part of the miracle. He fetched vessels. He watched
the oil flow. He listened to his mother’s instructions. And when she asked for
another vessel, he answered.
His voice mattered.
His words carried truth.
His statement shaped the
moment.
And Scripture recorded his
contribution because heaven honours the voices of children.
Children carry prophetic sensitivity!
Children often see what adults overlook. They speak with purity, honesty, and
unfiltered faith. They are not weighed down by logic, fear, or overthinking.
Their hearts are open. Their spirits are tender. Their faith is uncluttered.
This is why Jesus said,
“Unless you become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of
heaven” (Matthew 18:3).
Children believe easily.
They trust quickly. They respond sincerely. And God uses that simplicity to
release spiritual truth.
In many homes, children are
told to be quiet, stay out of adult matters, or keep their opinions to
themselves. But Scripture shows us that children are often the carriers of
divine insight, warning, encouragement, and truth.
Your child may say something
that seems small, but it may be God speaking through them.
Your child may ask a
question that exposes a spiritual reality.
Your child may pray a prayer
that shifts the atmosphere.
Your child may sense danger,
discern a person, or feel something in the spirit before you do.
Do not silence them.
Do not dismiss them.
Do not underestimate them.
Your child’s voice matters
to God—and it should matter to you.
Just as the widow filled
vessels with oil, God fills children with wisdom, dreams, visions, and
spiritual sensitivity. Joel 2:28 says, “Your sons and daughters shall
prophesy.”
Not when they are older.
Not when they are married.
Not when they have degrees.
Your sons and
daughters—now—shall prophesy.
The widow’s son in 2 Kings 4
was not prophesying, but he was participating. And participation is the
training ground for spiritual destiny.
Parents must create space
for their children’s voices
The widow involved her son
in the miracle. She did not send him away. She did not silence him. She did not
underestimate him.
She made room for him.
And God honoured that room.
Parents today must do the
same. Create space for your child to speak, pray, ask questions, share
impressions, and participate in spiritual life. When you honour their voice,
you honour the God who placed that voice inside them.
REFLECTION QUESTIONS
· Do I
intentionally create space for my child (or the children around me) to speak,
pray, and participate spiritually?
· Have
I dismissed or overlooked something a child said that may have carried
spiritual significance?
· How
can I nurture, encourage, and protect the spiritual sensitivity God has placed
inside my child?
PRAYER: Father, thank You
for the precious voices of children. Open my ears to hear them the way You do.
Help me honour, nurture, and protect the spiritual gifts You have placed within
them. Let my home be a place where children grow in wisdom, faith, and boldness.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
