CHILD-FRIENDLY DON’T GET DISTRACTED!
Matthew 9:18-26 ICB
While Jesus was saying these
things, a ruler of the synagogue came to him. The ruler bowed down before Jesus
and said, "My daughter has just died. But come and touch her with your
hand, and she will live again." [19] So Jesus stood up and went with the
ruler. Jesus' followers went too. [20] Then a woman who had been bleeding for
12 years came behind Jesus and touched the edge of his coat. [21] She was
thinking, "If I can touch his coat, then I will be healed." [22]
Jesus turned and saw the woman. He said, "Be happy, dear woman. You are
made well because you believed." And the woman was healed at once. [23]
Jesus continued along with the ruler and went into the ruler's house. Jesus saw
people there who play music for funerals. And he saw many people there crying.
[24] Jesus said, "Go away. The girl is not dead. She is only asleep."
But the people laughed at Jesus. [25] After the crowd had been put outside,
Jesus went into the girl's room. He took her hand, and she stood up. [26] The
news about this spread all around the area.
Jesus was always busy
helping people, but whenever someone needed Him, He stopped and paid attention.
In today’s world, many things can distract us, but Jesus never allowed anything
to take His eyes off the work God gave Him. He stayed focused because He knew
His purpose.
A distraction is anything
that pulls our mind or heart away from God. It can be fear, worry, too much
noise, too much playing, what people say, temptation, or even pain. If we let
distractions take over, we may forget to pray, forget to read our Bible, or
forget to obey God.
In Matthew 8:5–13, Jesus had
just entered a town when a soldier stopped Him and asked for help. Jesus didn’t
get upset. He used the moment to show God’s power and the man’s great faith.
In Matthew 9:18–26, Jesus
was on His way to heal a little girl when a woman who had been sick for twelve
years touched His clothes. Jesus stopped, healed her, and then continued His
journey. He didn’t see her as a distraction—He saw her as someone God wanted
Him to help.
Jesus is never distracted!
Imagine if Jesus had allowed
problems to stop Him. He might not have healed people, saved the lost, or
completed His mission. But Jesus stayed focused so that we could be saved.
One time, Jesus was sleeping
in a boat when a big storm started. The disciples were scared and woke Him up.
Jesus didn’t let their fear distract Him. He calmed the storm and kept going.
When they reached the other
side, two men with demons shouted at Jesus. He still helped them.
Another example is
Bartimaeus in Mark 10:46–52. He was blind and shouted loudly for Jesus. People
told him to be quiet, but he shouted even more. Jesus stopped, listened, and
healed him. Jesus always hears us when we call.
We also should not let life
distract us from following Jesus.
