PIDGIN ABIDE!

 1 John 2:28 “Naw my shidren, make una stay inside am, so dat wen E kom, awa heart go dey strong well-well and shame nor go make us run from where E dey.

 

To abide mean to stay close to God, hold Am tight, and no let go. For Bible, the word “abide” mean to remain inside God, to stay connected to Him, to live inside His presence, and to follow His will every day. Jesus talk for John 15:4–5 say, “Abide in me and I in you… without me you no fit do anything.” This show say if we no stay connected to Jesus, we no go grow and we no go bear fruit.

Life today dey messy, confusing, and sometimes scary. Things fit change any moment. That na why we need one place, one Person, and one foundation wey no dey shake—God. John 8:31 talk say, “If you continue in my word, then you be my true disciples.” To abide in God na the only sure way to stay safe for this slippery world.

For John 15:4, “abide” mean to stay for one place. Jesus repeat am many times to show say e important. The one place we suppose stay na inside Christ. We suppose stay rooted inside His love like plant (Ephesians 3:17), stay as part of His body (1 Corinthians 12:12–13), stay as stones for His temple (Ephesians 2:20–22), stay as members of His house (Hebrews 3:6), and stay as branches inside the Vine. Jesus tell us to remain in Him. E no mean say we fit lose am by mistake. E mean say God go give us the strength to remain, and He want make we use our mind and will to follow Him. We no be robot. God want relationship, not force.

Spiritual life no dey automatic. E dey active. E dey full of love between Christ and His people. We remain in Christ because we love am and choose am. He choose us first, and we choose to follow Him. Our freedom no make us run from Christ; e make us stay with Him.

We must learn to stay inside God protective presence, where danger no fit swallow us and attack no fit defeat us. To abide in God mean to trust Him, obey Him, and depend on His presence every day.

For Old Testament, to abide mean to dwell inside God presence. Psalm 91:1 talk say, “Whoever dey dwell under the shadow of the Almighty go remain safe.” Abiding also mean to obey God commandments and keep His word inside our heart (Deuteronomy 6:6–7). Abiding involve your body, your mind, and your spirit. E mean to surrender fully to God and stay connected to Him every moment.

Henry Lyte, the man wey write the hymn “Abide with Me,” understand this well. He write am when he dey close to death. He remember the disciples for Luke 24:29 wey tell Jesus, “Abide with us, for evening don reach.” Even though Lyte dey weak and lonely, he know say Jesus dey with am. And Jesus still dey with us today. He no dey change. He no dey leave His own. He be our help, our guide, and our security.

This na the blessed assurance we get: God dey abide with us for this life and for eternity. And we too must abide in Him always.

·       How I dey intentionally abide in Christ every day through His Word, prayer, and obedience 

·       Which distraction or fear dey pull me away from staying rooted in Christ 

·       Which fruit God dey produce for my life as I remain in Him, and where He dey call me to trust Him more 

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, thank You for calling me into a living and lasting relationship with You through Jesus Christ. Teach me to abide in You every day, to remain rooted in Your Word, strong in prayer, and obedient to Your will. For this unstable world, keep my heart steady inside You, my refuge and strength. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
