PIDGIN IN CHAINS FOR CHRIST!

Filippian 1:12-26

My brodas and sistas, I wont make una know sey my sofa na to make di gospel stand. 13 Di sojas wey dey guide di prison and all di oda pipol don know sey, na bikos of Christ, I dey prison 14 and bikos of di prison wey dem put mi so, almost all di brodas and sistas faith for Christ, don strong well-well. And naw, dem don dey prish God word without fear.

15 True-true, na jealousy and kworel make some dey prish about Christ, but odas dey do am with betta mind. 16 I know sey dis ones na love make dem dey do am, bikos dem know sey I dey here to defend wetin dem dey prish. 17 Doz oda ones wey dey prish about Christ dey do so, bikos dem dey tink about diasef and wetin dem go gain. Dem nor dey do tins with klean mind and dem tink sey dem fit kause more trobol for mi, bikos I dey prison. 18 But dat one nor matter to mi. So, weda dem dey pritend or do am with klean mind, di message about Christ dey kontinue and na dat one dey make mi happy.

I go always dey happy, 19 bikos I know sey na una prayer and di help wey Christ Spirit dey give, dey save mi. 20 Di hope wey I get bi sey, shame nor go ever fit katch mi; my heart go strong well-well and as I dey do naw, na so I go always dey do. Evritin for my body go praiz Christ, weda I dey alive or I don die. 21 Bikos to mi, to dey dis life, na to live for Christ and to die inside Christ, na dat one betta pass. 22 If I kontinue to dey live inside dis body, e mean sey I go do betta work, but I nor know wish one I go like pass. 23 Naw, I know wish one I go choose, bikos I won go dey with Christ and na dat one betta pass. 24 But e go good for una as I still dey for dis body. 25 I dey sure of dis tins: I know sey I nor go die naw, so dat I go kontinue with una and as una dey inside di faith, una life go dey betta more-more. 26 So wen I kom meet una again as una dey serve Christ, una go get more rizin to dey happy bikos of mi.

If anybody sabi wetin e mean to dey in chains for Christ, na Pastor Clive Johnston, retired Baptist pastor wey dem convict because e protest against abortion inside clinic “safe access zone.” Wetin that one even mean? Time don reach wey world go begin criminalize Christ-followers just because dem dare to “breathe.”

We dey in chains for Christ? If yes, e mean say we be prisoners? According to Paul for Ephesians 4:1, all of us suppose be prisoners of Christ if we truly dey committed to follow am. Paul sef enter jail many times because of him commitment to Christ.

Dem dey talk say love na action word, verb, and commitment na the same. Na our actions — how we obey God word, handle affliction, and overcome challenges — guided by our trust or lack of trust in God, wey dey show how committed we be to am.

Today Christian wan serve and follow God on their own terms — meaning, no affliction, no delay, no problem, no up and down. Dem want God to show love with rainbow and sunshine, but dem no wan show love back to God when things no go their way.

Plenty of us don turn prisoners to ourselves, to demons, and to different things like Mark 5:4 talk — bound with chains wey only Jesus fit break.

Wetin bind you? You dey in chains for Christ or for something else? Adversity dey come to test our commitment to Christ. We dey give up when wahala show or we dey push through?

God dey use these imprisonments as opportunity to draw us closer and to lead others to salvation when dem see our commitment inside challenge.

Like Paul, through him imprisonment, many people receive salvation — prison guards and their families. Paul suffer well for gospel sake. You nko?

You go remain committed to Christ if you face small wetin Paul face?

Paul and Silas again enter prison and chains for Christ for Acts 16:26. Dem get every reason to vex, complain, or tire for God, but dem worship with the weight of their chains.

E bad enough to dey imprisoned for crime wey you deserve, but how demoralizing e be to dey imprisoned for nothing but your faith in God.

Dem arrest Paul again for Acts 21, and verse 33 talk say dem beat am and bind am with two chains with soldiers for both sides so he no go escape.

He no even want escape.

Na wetin commitment dey do person. Why we go wan run from chains wey later go become God symbol of love and favour for our life — sign say Him hand dey on us

God even urge us for Zechariah 9:12 to return to our prison because inside am we go receive covenant blessings of grain and new wine as He restore double for everything we lose, heal every pain, and give us victory over our enemy.

Paul use paradox for Ephesians 6:20 — “ambassador in chains.” Ambassadors suppose dey untouchable by law and no fit dey chained. Yet Christ ambassador dey in chains!

Prisoners in chains!

You be prisoner in chains for Christ?

Paul talk with him own mouth for Acts 28:20, “I am bound in chains,” but na for sake of the coming Messiah.

You committed reach to dey imprisoned and bound in chains for Christ? Or you dey already in chains for Christ?

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

For which area of my life I dey truly show commitment to Christ, especially when obedience dey cost me or dey uncomfortable?

Which chains for my life dey pull me away from God, and wetin I need surrender make Christ fit lead me fully?

If I face hardship, delay, or opposition because of my faith, my response go show trust, worship, and perseverance like Paul?

PRAYER: Lord, give me grace to bear any chain wey bind me for Your glory and Your kingdom. Help me to show my commitment to You in any way You choose to lead me, in Jesus name. Amen.
