PIDGIN SAVED BY GRACE, NOT WORKS!
Ephesians 2:8–10 “8 God save una with en grace, bikos una get faith (as una don bilive Christ), nor bi with una own pawa, but na God give una. 9 E nor save una bikos of di work wey una do, so make nobody dey boast. 10 God kreate us thru Jesus Christ as di good work wey E don prepare down before, so dat wi go dey do as E plan.
The message of grace na the
heartbeat of the gospel. Na this truth separate Christianity from every other
belief system. The world dey teach say you must earn acceptance, approval, or
salvation through performance, but Bible talk boldly say salvation na gift, no
be salary. Other religions go tell you say you must perform to earn salvation
wey still no sure.
Paul writing for these
verses scatter human pride and lift up God generosity wey no dey based on
performance.
Grace mean unearned,
undeserved, unmerited favour. Na God reach out to humanity — not because we
good, but because Him good. Romans 5:8 confirm am: “But God show Him love
toward us, because while we still dey sin, Christ die for us.” Salvation no
start because we find God; e start because God find us. No be our holiness
attract am; na His love pursue us.
Paul understand this thing
well. Before he meet Christ, he no be seeker of Jesus — he be persecutor of the
church (Acts 9:1–6). But grace interrupt am. Grace blind am so he fit see.
Grace turn murderer to messenger. Paul later talk for 1 Corinthians 15:10 say,
“By the grace of God I be wetin I be.” Him life show say salvation no be reward
for good behaviour but miracle of God mercy.
The thief for cross no get
time to make restitution, no chance to do good works, no opportunity to prove
sincerity. But for his last moment, he tell Jesus, “Lord, remember me…” (Luke
23:42). Jesus answer, “Today you go dey with Me for paradise.” Na that be grace
— pure, undeserved, overwhelming grace. Salvation come no because of wetin he
do, but because of who Jesus be.
But verse 10 remind us say
grace no dey produce laziness. We no dey saved by works, but for works. Grace
turn us to God “workmanship” — Him masterpiece, Him crafted vessel, Him
intentional design. The Greek word poiema mean artistry. Salvation no be the
end of God work in us; na the beginning. Grace save, shape, and send us.
This mean good works no be
ladder wey we climb reach God; na fruit of life wey God touch. Na evidence — no
be the cause — of salvation. Jesus talk for Matthew 5:16 say, “Make your light
shine so people go see your good works and glorify your Father for heaven.” Our
works dey point upward, not inward. Dem dey glorify Him, no be us.
Grace also protect us from
the tiring cycle of self‑righteousness.
Many believers still dey live like say dem must earn God approval. Dem dey
serve, give, and try hard — yet
inside dem still feel unworthy. But grace dey whisper, “You are accepted in the
Beloved” (Ephesians 1:6). Grace say,
“It is finished” (John 19:30). Grace free us
from pressure to perform and invite us into joy of relationship.
At the same time, grace dey
empower us to live differently. Titus 2:11–12 say the grace of God wey bring
salvation don appear to all men, dey teach us to deny ungodliness and live
soberly, righteously, and godly. Grace no be permission to sin; na power to
overcome sin. E no weaken holiness; e strengthen am. E no excuse disobedience;
e enable obedience.
When we understand grace,
gratitude become our posture. Worship become our response. Service become our
privilege. We go stop to struggle to earn God love and start to live from the
love wey He don give freely. We go stop to perform for acceptance and start to
waka in identity. We go stop to boast in ourselves and start to boast in Christ
alone.
Salvation by grace na the
great equaliser. E humble the proud and lift the broken. E silence boasting and
magnify mercy. E remind us say every believer — whether polished or messy — dey
stand on the same ground: the grace of God.
And because salvation na
gift, e dey secure. Wetin God give, nobody fit take am. Wetin God start, He go
finish (Philippians 1:6). Grace save us, keep us, transform us, and carry us
reach home.
