PIDGIN SPIRITUAL PROSTITUTION!
Jeremiah 3:1–11 “1 God sey, “If man drive en wife and di woman go marry anoda man, di man go fit go marry di woman again? Dat kind tin go make di land dirty.
But Israel pipol, una bi
ashawo wey get many husband and naw, una won turn back kom meet mi. 2 Make una
look on-top di hills and una go si sey e nor get anywhere wey una neva do
ashawo! Una sidan for road dey wait men, just as Arab pipol dey wait for dia
enemies for desert. And naw, una don spoil di land with una ashawo and wiked
life. 3 Bikos of dis, God nor allow rain fall, even for di rite time. With all
dis tins, una still dey live una ashawo life and shame nor dey katch una. 4 Una
even dey kry to mi naw sey, ‘Yu bi awa papa. Na from small pikin Yu love us kom
rish naw. 5 Yu go vex and forget us forever?’ All dis na wetin una dey tok, but
una still dey do di bad-bad tins wey dey una mind.” Israel Pipol Nor Get Faith 6
Wen King Josaya dey rule for Judah, God tell mi sey, “Israel pipol wey nor dey
faithful, yu si all wetin dem dey do? Dem don waka leave mi kon dey do ashawo
for under evry green tree and high hill. 7 I tink sey afta dem do all dis tins
finish, dem go kom back kom meet mi, but dem nor kom and dia sista Judah, wey
nor dey faithful too, si wetin dem do. 8 I drive Israel pipol, bikos of dia
ashawo life, yet en sista, Judah, nor fear, but e kon join dey do ashawo too. 9
Bikos Israel sin nor mean anytin to dem, dem kon kontinue to spoil di land as
dem dey woship stones and wood. 10 Even with all dis tins, Israel sista wey bi
Judah nor gri turn kom meet mi with all dia heart, but dem just dey pritend.” Oga
God don tok. 11 Den God tell mi, “Even doh Israel pipol don turn from Mi, dem
still betta pass Judah wey nor dey faithful at-all.”
People call prostitution the
“oldest work” for this world. For olden days and even today, many women—and
sometimes men—use am survive. But Bible no dey hide mouth about wetin God think
about am. Proverbs 23:27–28 warn say, “Prostitute na deep pit, and wayward wife
na narrow well. She dey hide like thief and she dey increase unfaithfulness
among men.” Beyond the physical act, Bible dey use prostitution show spiritual
unfaithfulness—wetin happen when God people leave Am go follow other gods,
desires or distractions.
Hosea 4:12 talk am strong:
“Spirit of whoredom don carry my people go astray, and dem don leave their God
go play the harlot.” God no dey talk only about physical sin; He dey talk about
spiritual adultery—when Israel begin follow idols, false prophets and foreign
gods. This same spirit full our generation today. Many people dey prostitute
themselves after trends, doctrines, personalities and movements wey no get
anything to do with God. Others dey waka from church to church, denomination to
denomination, dey find something wey dem no even fit describe. Wetin exactly
dem dey find? Wetin you dey find?
For Jeremiah 3, Judah be
like wife wey leave her Husband—God—and go follow many lovers. This matter no
be old story; na wetin dey happen today. Like Judah, many believers dey waka up
and down, dey chase convenience, comfort or spiritual excitement instead of
commitment. We want God blessing but we no want Him Lordship. We want Him
promises but we no want Him discipline. We want Him presence but we no want Him
standards. Yet, even with our unfaithfulness, God still remain faithful. He dey
feel the pain of betrayal, the sorrow of our wandering and the hurt of our
divided heart. God no be cold judge; He be loving Papa and Husband wey dey long
for reconciliation.
Our generation don build
culture of spiritual prostitution. People no dey rooted again; dem dey
restless, easily carried away, always dey look for the next “spiritual high.”
Some dey look for perfect church—place wey no get wahala, correction or
accountability. But dat kain church no dey. Instead make dem grow where God
plant them, dem dey uproot themselves every time, and this dey weaken their
spiritual foundation.
Judah repentance for
Jeremiah 3:10 na just acting. God wey dey see heart expose their pretence. Na
so e be with us too. God dey see through our outward holiness, church
attendance, religious talk and emotional worship. He know when our heart far
from Am.
God forbid prostitution
because He know the destruction wey dey follow am. Proverbs 5:3–5 describe how
immorality dey sweet for beginning but deadly for end. Na so spiritual
prostitution be—new teachings, new experiences, new voices dey sweet for ear,
but dem dey lead to confusion, spiritual death and distance from God.
As we dey stray, our heart
dey harden. Person fit show for church but nothing dey touch am again. Worship
fit dey loud but heart fit dey cold. This na danger of spiritual prostitution:
e dey make person insensitive to God.
But Bible message no be
condemnation; na redemption. Rahab, the prostitute for Jericho, meet God of
Israel and believe. Her faith save, change, and put her inside lineage of
Christ. This na hope for every spiritual wanderer. No matter how far person don
go, God mercy still big pass am. Him arms still open. Him grace still enough.
Him love still strong. As 2 Corinthians 5:17 talk, anybody wey turn to Christ
go become new creation.
The call today simple: return.
Stay with God. Stop to waka up and down. Stop to chase spiritual excitement and
begin pursue spiritual depth. God want faithful bride, no be wandering one.
