POSITION TO POSSESS!
Ephesians 2:4-6 Voice
But God, with the
unfathomable richness of His love and mercy focused on us, [5] united us with
the Anointed One and infused our lifeless souls with life-even though we were
buried under mountains of sin-and saved us by His grace. [6] He raised us up
with Him and seated us in the heavenly realms with our beloved Jesus the
Anointed, the Liberating King.
To possess what God has
given, we must first understand where we are positioned. God desires His people
to be in the right place, at the right time, and for the right reasons. Many
believers lose ground not because God withheld anything, but because they
withdrew in the face of opposition. Often, we miss our possession because we
fail to hold our position.
Opposition is not always a
sign of error; many times, it is proof that something valuable is ahead. David
understood this truth. When faced with Goliath, he did not run. He stood firmly
because he recognised his position in God. His boldness was not rooted in his
experience or strength, but in his understanding of covenant and position.
Position refers to
placement—where one stands, sits, or operates from. According to Webster’s
Revised Unabridged Dictionary, position describes the state of being placed,
one’s condition, attitude, or situation. Spiritually, position is critical
because it determines authority, perspective, and outcome. Where you stand from
determines what you can withstand.
Before salvation, we were
spiritually dead—unable to respond to God. But through Christ Jesus, we were
made alive. Ephesians 2:4–6 reveals that by His mercy and love, God raised us
up together with Christ and seated us with Him in heavenly places. This is not
future language; this is present reality. Because Christ was raised and seated,
everyone who believes now shares in that resurrection life and position.
Through Christ, our position
changes completely. We move from sinner to saint, from outsider to family, from
powerless to authorised. Grace places us on the Lord’s side—the kingdom
side—the side of power, royalty, and reign. Ephesians 2:19 declares that we are
no longer strangers or aliens, but fellow citizens with the saints and members
of the household of God. You are seated with believers, under the authority of
Christ, and within God’s family.
It is from this position in
Christ that spiritual victory is possible. Authority flows from position.
Confidence to stand against opposition comes from knowing where you are seated.
David’s courage came from this awareness. In 1 Samuel 17, he acknowledged God’s
covenant and stood his ground. He did not see Goliath from the valley of fear,
but from the position of faith.
Do you know your position in
Christ? This question is vital because position affects posture. If you do not
know where you are seated, you may fight from weakness rather than authority.
Our position in Christ assures us of our inheritance. When we operate from that
position, we can face every opposition without flinching.
Jesus Himself showed us what
right positioning looks like. In Luke 22:27, He taught that true authority is
expressed through humility. Though He was Lord, He served. He also demonstrated
the posture of teaching authority by sitting, which was the customary position
for teachers in His day (Matthew 12:1–2). The crowd stood, but He sat to
teach—showing calm confidence, not insecurity.
This challenges us to ask:
are we willing to take the position of learners at the Master’s feet? Are we
open to instruction, correction, and growth? It is at His feet that we receive
wisdom, strength, and courage to overcome our adversaries. Pride weakens
position; humility strengthens it.
Our seating and reigning
with Christ represent authority, honour, and triumph—not defeat, fear, or
depression. This position is already secured in Christ. When Jesus sat down in
triumph, we were seated with Him. Our task is not to obtain the position, but
to operate from it.
However, position must be
exercised to be effective. Authority unused becomes ineffective. We must
actively enforce Christ’s victory over principalities and powers through faith,
obedience, and prayer. Our inheritance is available, but it must be possessed.
Scripture gives us a warning
through the tribe of Dan in Judges 18. Though land was allotted to them, they
failed to fully displace the Canaanites. Instead, they tolerated opposition and
forfeited their possession. They had a promise but did not stand fully in their
position.
This mirrors the experience
of many believers today. We sometimes coexist with fear, compromise, sin, or
unbelief—allowing them to occupy territory that belongs to us. When we do this,
we lose ground. Possession follows position. When we abandon our position, we
forfeit our inheritance.
God has already provided
everything we need in Christ. Victory, authority, and inheritance are
available. The key is to remain firmly positioned—rooted in Christ, confident
in His Word, and bold in faith. When we hold our position, possession will
follow.
REFLECTION QUESTIONS
· Do I
react to opposition by retreating, or by standing firmly in my position in
Christ?
· Are
there areas where I am tolerating resistance instead of exercising authority?
· How
can I practically operate daily from my seated position with Christ?
PRAYER: Dear Lord, help me
to boldly and confidently remain in my position in Christ. Strengthen me to
stand firm in faith, resist opposition, and fully possess my inheritance in
You. Teach me to operate with humility, authority, and obedience. In Jesus’
name, Amen.
