WHY!
Isaiah 45:11 AMP
For the LORD, the Holy One
of Israel, and its Maker says this, “Ask Me about the things to come concerning
My sons, And give Me orders concerning the work of My hands.
How many times do we say the
word “why” in one day? Why this? Why that? Why me? Why now? If we truly counted
how often we ask “why,” we would realise how much of self, control, and human
reasoning is wrapped into everything we do. We ask God why things happen, why
He allows certain situations, why He asks us to obey, why He leads us in a
direction we did not choose. Why, why, why.
But every time we question
God from a place of doubt, we reveal something deeper: a lack of trust. Romans
8:28 tells us that God works all things together for our good, yet we struggle
to take Him at His word. Instead of resting in His promise, we question His
timing, His decisions, and His silence. We question His integrity and
faithfulness whenever we question His word or what we think is His inaction.
Instead of asking “why,” our
hearts should learn to say, “Lord, I trust You.”
If God wants us to
understand something, He will reveal it. Who told us we must have all the
answers? Who said we must understand everything before we obey? We do not need
full understanding to walk with God. In fact, 1 Corinthians 13:9 reminds us
that our knowledge is partial and incomplete. We see only a small piece of the
picture, but God sees the whole story from beginning to end.
Our responsibility is
simple: trust God.
Every day, we choose either
to give in to our pain, confusion, and frustration, or to lean on God’s
strength and trust Him. Life often feels unfair. Situations feel unjust. People
disappoint us. Circumstances overwhelm us. And our hearts cry out, “Why! Why!
Why!” But there comes a point where we must silence the endless questions and
surrender to God’s wisdom.
Scripture warns us not to
question God in a rebellious or accusatory way. In Romans 9:20–21, Paul quotes
Jeremiah 18:1–6, reminding us that God is the Potter and we are the clay. The
clay does not question the Potter’s decisions. Psalm 75:7 says God decides who
rises and who falls. Isaiah 55:8–9 tells us His thoughts and ways are far above
ours. So when we question God’s decisions, we are indirectly saying we doubt
His goodness and do not trust Him to have our best interests at heart.
If we cannot trust God, who
can we trust?
Proverbs 3:5–6 must become
our declaration, especially in difficult seasons: “Lord, I trust You. I will
not doubt Your plans. I will not fear. I will not try to understand everything.
I know You have a good plan for me, so I place everything in Your capable
hands.”
We do not need to know why
God does what He does. We only need to know that He is good. Psalm 27:13
assures us that we will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.
God’s character is trustworthy even when His methods are mysterious.
1 Samuel 2:3 describes God
as the One whose knowledge is unsearchable and whose actions are guided by
perfect wisdom. Psalm 18:30 says His ways are perfect and His word is flawless.
How then can we question a God whose understanding is limitless and whose
decisions are always right?
Yet, humanity often blames
God for everything wrong in the world — even the consequences of our own
choices. We question why society is broken, why evil seems to increase, why
things are not improving, and why God is not “fixing” everything. But the real
question is this: why have we turned God’s creation upside down?
Why have we allowed sin to
run wild?
Why have we abandoned God’s
standards?
Why have we polluted His
altar and twisted His word?
Why do we call evil good and
good evil?
Why have we forsaken the God
who created us?
And after all this, do we
still dare to question God? Why.
Before we ask God “why,” we
must first ask ourselves “why.” Why do we resist His ways? Why do we doubt His
love? Why do we trust ourselves more than we trust Him? The answers are often
closer than we think.
REFLECTION QUESTIONS
· What
situations in my life make me question God instead of trusting Him?
· Where
is God asking me to surrender my need for answers and simply obey?
· What
Scriptures can I hold onto when I feel tempted to ask “why” instead of saying
“I trust You, Lord”?
PRAYER: Father, help me to
trust You completely. Teach me to hold onto Your word without needing to
understand everything. Strengthen my faith so that I will not doubt Your plans
for my life. I surrender my questions and choose to trust Your wisdom, in Jesus’
name. Amen.
