CHILD-FRIENDLY THE OTHER MARY!
Matthew 28:1-6 ICB
The day after the Sabbath
day was the first day of the week. At dawn on the first day, Mary Magdalene and
another woman named Mary went to look at the tomb. [2] At that time there was a
strong earthquake. An angel of the Lord came down from heaven. The angel went
to the tomb and rolled the stone away from the entrance. Then he sat on the
stone. [3] He was shining as bright as lightning. His clothes were white as
snow. [4] The soldiers guarding the tomb were very frightened of the angel.
They shook with fear and then became like dead men. [5] The angel said to the
women, "Don't be afraid. I know that you are looking for Jesus, the one
who was killed on the cross. [6] But he is not here. He has risen from death as
he said he would. Come and see the place where his body was.
The Bible tells us about
many people who loved Jesus, and one of them is a quiet woman called “the other
Mary.” She was not Jesus’ mother, not Mary Magdalene, and not Mary of Bethany.
She didn’t have a big story or a famous miracle. But she loved Jesus very much,
and she stayed close to Him even when things were hard.
The Bible says, “Early on
the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at
the tomb.” She didn’t go there for attention. She didn’t go to be seen. She
went because she loved Jesus and wanted to be near Him.
The other Mary shows us what
it means to be faithful, even when nobody is watching. Some people follow Jesus
only when things are exciting. But she followed Him when it was dark, sad, and
confusing. Proverbs 20:6 says, “Many people say they are loyal, but who can
find a truly faithful person?” The other Mary was that kind of faithful person.
Because she kept showing up,
she saw something amazing. An angel came down, rolled away the stone, and said,
“He is not here; He has risen!” She was one of the first people to hear the
good news that Jesus is alive.
God loves people who stay
close to Him. Just like Anna the prophetess who prayed in the temple for many
years, the other Mary stayed near Jesus. And God rewarded her faithfulness.
She didn’t preach or do
miracles. She just showed up. She stood by the cross. She watched where Jesus
was buried. She came early on Sunday morning. Her ministry was simply being
there.
God sees children who are
faithful too. Even if people forget your name, God never forgets your love for
Him.
