CHILD-FRIENDLY WHOSE SIDE ARE YOU ON?

 Exodus 32:26 ICB

So Moses stood at the entrance to the camp. He said, "Let anyone who wants to follow the Lord come to me." And all the people from the family of Levi gathered around Moses.

 

“Whose side are you on?” This is the same question God asked the Israelites through Moses, and it is the same question God asks children and adults today. Every day, we choose sides. Sometimes we choose what is easy, what our friends want, or what makes us feel comfortable. But the most important choice we must make is this: Am I on the Lord’s side?

When Moses came down from the mountain, he saw the people worshipping a golden calf. They forgot God and started doing what was wrong. Moses stood at the gate of the camp and shouted, “Who is on the Lord’s side?” Only the tribe of Levi came to stand with him. They chose God even when it was hard, even when others were doing the wrong thing. God saw their courage and trusted them.

Being on the Lord’s side does not always feel easy. Sometimes it means standing alone. Sometimes it means saying “no” when others say “yes.” Sometimes it means choosing what is right even when it is not popular. Today, we may not bow to a golden calf, but people can still make idols out of money, games, friends, phones, or even themselves. Anything we love more than God becomes an idol.

Jesus said, “If you are not with Me, you are against Me.” There is no middle ground. We cannot serve God and still follow wrong things. We must choose.

Joshua also learned this lesson. When he met the Commander of the Lord’s army, he asked, “Are You on our side?” The answer was, “No—I am here for the Lord.” God is not here to follow our plans; we are here to follow His.

So today, God asks you again: Whose side are you on?

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

·       What things sometimes pull my heart away from God? 

·       How can I show I am on God’s side at home or school? 

·       What choice can I make today that shows I belong to Jesus?

PRAYER: Lord, help me choose Your side every day. Give me strength to do what is right and to follow You with all my heart. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
