PIDGIN THE OTHER MARY!
Matthew 28:1–6 “Wen day break for Sabat Day, wey bi di first day for di week, Mary Magdalin and di oda Mary kon go look di grave.
2 At wons, strong eartkweke
happen, bikos God angel kom down from heaven, roll di stone komot kon sidan
on-top am. 3 En face bi like tonda lite and en klot white like snow. 4 Di
guards kon dey shake and dem bi like pipol wey won die, bikos fear katch dem
well-well.
5 But di angel tell di
wimen, “Make una nor fear, I know sey una dey look for Jesus Christ, wey dem
nail for cross. 6 E nor dey here, bikos God don wake am up, just as God
promise. Make una kom si di place where e liedan put before.
Something dey very beautiful
for the way Bible dey honour people wey many times people no dey notice. For
Matthew 28, Bible show us again one woman wey her name dey appear quietly,
steadily, and faithfully — “the other Mary.” She no be Mary wey born Jesus, she
no be Mary Magdalene wey Jesus deliver, she no be Mary of Bethany wey sit for
Jesus’ feet. She just be the other Mary — but she still dey present for one of
the biggest moments for human history: the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Matthew talk say, “After the
Sabbath, early for morning on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the
other Mary go look the tomb.” She no get title. Bible no describe her with big
exploits. Bible no give her backstory. She just dey — present, steady, loyal,
and dey find Jesus even when everything don look hopeless.
The faithfulness of the
overlooked!
The other Mary represent
plenty believers wey dey serve God without clapping or spotlight. She be
picture of people wey still remain when crowd don disappear, people wey still
dey when noise don fade, people wey dey follow Jesus not because of miracle but
because of love. When the disciples run because of fear, she still stay. When
others hide, she waka go the tomb.
Her presence for the tomb
show faith wey no loud but e dey last. Proverbs 20:6 talk say, “Many people dey
claim say dem get unfailing love, but who fit find faithful person? The other
Mary na that faithful person. She teach us say God dey see the hidden ones, the
quiet ones, the people wey dey show up when e dark, uncertain, or painful.
When the angel come down,
roll the stone comot, and announce the resurrection, the other Mary dey there
to witness am. She become one of the first human beings wey hear the greatest
announcement ever: “He no dey here; He don rise, just as He talk.”
Truly, reward dey for people
wey dey show up.
Na so God dey do things —
people wey stay near Jesus for dark times na dem dey first see His light.
People wey remain for seasons of silence na dem dey first hear new
instructions. People wey dey show up in obedience na dem dey first encounter
His glory.
Remember Anna the prophetess
for Luke 2:36–38. She no be public figure, but she stay for temple for many
years, dey worship, fast, and pray. Because she remain, she see the Messiah
when many religious leaders miss am. God dey honour consistency.
The other Mary and the
ministry of presence.
Sometimes the biggest
ministry na just to dey present. The other Mary no preach sermon. She no
perform miracle. She no write epistle. She just show up. She stand near the
cross for Matthew 27:55–56. She follow Joseph of Arimathea to see where dem lay
Jesus for Matthew 27:61. She come back early on resurrection morning.
Her ministry na presence —
quiet, steady, and unwavering presence.
For this world wey dey
obsessed with platform, God still dey honour presence. For this generation wey
dey celebrate visibility, God still dey reward faithfulness. Hebrews 6:10
remind us say God no dey unjust. Even
when people forget your name, Heaven dey record your devotion.
When the angel talk, e no
call her “the other Mary.” Heaven no dey use the labels wey people give us.
Heaven dey speak to identity, no be reputation. Heaven dey see devotion, no be
title. Heaven dey see faithfulness, no be public recognition.
The resurrection dey reveal
identity!
The resurrection moment lift
her from obscurity enter divine assignment. She and Mary Magdalene receive the
first resurrection message to carry go meet the disciples. The overlooked
become messenger. The quiet one become witness. The faithful one become carrier
of good news.
Na so resurrection still dey
do today — e dey lift, reveal, affirm, and send.
