THE WISDOM OF GOD!

 James 1:5 AMP

If any of you lacks wisdom [to guide him through a decision or circumstance], he is to ask of [our benevolent] God, who gives to everyone generously and without rebuke or blame, and it will be given to him.

Can one be given or receive the wisdom of God? Scripture answers this clearly: yes. God not only possesses all wisdom—He gives it. James 1:5 declares that if anyone lacks wisdom, they should ask God, who gives generously and without reproach. This means wisdom is not reserved for a select few; it is a divine gift available to every believer who desires it.

Throughout Scripture, we see God imparting wisdom to men and women for divine purpose. No one is more renowned for wisdom than King Solomon. 1 Kings 4:29 tells us that God gave Solomon wisdom, great insight, and a breadth of understanding as measureless as the sand on the seashore. Solomon did not earn this wisdom; he received it because he asked for it. His request pleased God, and God responded with abundance.

So, what exactly is wisdom?

Wisdom is more than knowledge. Knowledge is information—facts gathered through experience, study, or observation. But wisdom is knowledge shaped by the character of God. It is the ability to discern what is true, right, and pleasing to God. Wisdom is the inner quality that aligns our hearts, decisions, and lifestyles with the purposes of God.

Biblically, wisdom also refers to skill, ability, and divine intelligence imparted by the Holy Spirit. It is the supernatural capacity to apply God’s truth in practical ways. It is the knowledge of God that leads us to live godly lives in conformity with His divine nature.

General wisdom—human wisdom—can be improved through learning and experience. But godly wisdom is different. It is not discovered; it is given. It is not developed; it is received. It does not come from the earth; it comes from above. Godly wisdom is only attainable through a heart that seeks God and asks Him for it.

Proverbs 4:5 commands us to “Get wisdom.” This is not a suggestion; it is a divine instruction. We are told not only to pursue wisdom but to hold tightly to it, never forgetting its teachings or straying from its path. Proverbs 2:4 describes wisdom as a treasure that must be searched for, dug out, and valued above earthly riches.

Without wisdom, life becomes turbulent. Human wisdom often leads us into confusion, frustration, and unnecessary battles. It can make life feel unfair and overwhelming. But the wisdom of God stabilizes, directs, and empowers. It brings clarity where there is confusion, peace where there is anxiety, and direction where there is uncertainty.

When we turn our hearts toward God and allow His Word to guide us, we begin to embrace His wisdom. True wisdom—godly wisdom—is the “tree of life” referenced in Genesis 3:22. It does not originate from human intellect but from the Spirit of God.

Many Christians today seek wisdom from secular sources. While there is nothing wrong with reading widely, secular knowledge cannot produce godly wisdom. Even books written by “Christian experts” can sometimes be filled with secular ideas dressed in religious language. The true source of wisdom is the Word of God. The Bible is the well from which divine wisdom flows.

To know the will of God is the highest form of wisdom. God is all-wise, infinitely wise, and His wisdom far surpasses human understanding. Psalm 111:10 teaches that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. James 1:5 affirms that God Himself is the giver of wisdom. He alone teaches this wisdom, and He gives it generously to those who ask.

Those who possess God’s wisdom demonstrate it through their lifestyle. James 3:13 says that wisdom is shown through good conduct, humility, and deeds done in gentleness. Godly wisdom produces purity, peace, mercy, and good fruit. Ecclesiastes 10:10 reminds us that wisdom brings success—it sharpens us, strengthens us, and positions us to prosper.

Wisdom is not optional for the believer. It is essential. It is the compass of the Spirit, the voice of God in the heart, and the light that guides our steps.
