PIDGIN EVEN THE ELEMENTS AND DEMONS OBEY HIM!
Mark 4:35–41 “Wen evening rish dat day, Jesus kon tell en disciples, “Make wi cross go di oda side for di river.” 36 So afta dem leave di pipol, dem enter di boat wey Jesus sidan and oda boat still dey der with dem. 37 Den, strong breeze kon dey blow and wota dey enter di boat, so di boat kon dey won sink. 38 But Jesus put en head for pillow dey sleep inside di boat. Den, dem koll am dey sey, “Tisha, yu nor even kare sey wi won die?”
39 So Jesus get up kon
kommand di breeze, den e tell di river, “Make yu kwayet!” Di breeze stop and
evriwhere kon kwayet at wons.
40 Den Jesus tell dem, “Why
una dey fear? Una still nor get faith?”
41 Fear katch dem well-well
and dem kon dey ask each oda, “Who dis man bi sef? Even breeze and river dey
obey am!”
The authority wey Jesus get
no be story or theory — e dey clear, e dey show, and e dey strong for
everywhere inside Scripture. When Jesus dey waka for earth, creation dey
respond to Am, storm dey bow for Him command, and demons dey shake when Him
appear. Him authority no be something wey dem borrow give am, or negotiate, or
inherit from anybody — e dey inside Am because He be God. Everything wey we fit
see and the ones wey we no fit see recognise am as Lord.
One of the clearest places
wey show this authority na our text, where Jesus calm the storm. The disciples
— many of dem na fishermen wey sabi water well — begin fear as the waves dey
beat their boat. But Jesus, wey dem wake from sleep, just talk: “Peace, be
still.” Immediately, the wind stop and everywhere calm. The disciples shock and
ask, “Which kind man be this, wey even wind and sea dey obey am?” Creation
recognise their Creator.
This moment show something
deep: the elements dey respond to the voice of the One wey create dem. The wind
no dey blow anyhow; the sea no dey wild without control. Na Him speak dem into
existence (Genesis 1). So when Him speak again, dem obey. Him authority over
nature no be force — na identity. The storm know who be Him Master.
Jesus still show authority
over the unseen realm. For Mark 1:23–27, one man wey get unclean spirit shout
for synagogue. The demon recognise Jesus sharp sharp, saying, “I know who You
be — the Holy One of God!” Jesus rebuke the spirit and command am to commot.
The people shock and say, “With authority He dey command unclean spirits, and
dem dey obey am.”
Demons dey obey Jesus
because dem know say Him dey on top. Dem know say Him don defeat their master.
Dem know say Him be Light wey darkness no fit understand. Dem know say every
knee go bow before am (Philippians 2:10). Their obedience no be voluntary — e
compulsory. Him presence dey expose dem, Him word dey chase dem, and Him
authority dey silence dem.
Another strong example na
the man wey get legion of demons for Mark 5:1–13. Legion fit mean thousands,
but dem still beg Jesus make Him no torment dem. Dem even ask permission before
dem enter pigs. Even when dem dey rebel, demons no fit act without Him say-so.
Dem recognise Him dominion and respond.
Jesus’ authority pass storms
and spirits — e cover sickness, death, and all creation. For Matthew 8:5–13,
the centurion understand this when he talk, “Just speak the word, and my
servant go heal.” He know say Jesus dey operate for realm wey Him word na law.
Healing dey obey am. Disease dey obey am. Body dey obey am.
For John 11, Lazarus don die
four days. But when Jesus call am, death release am. Grave obey am. Decay obey
am. Time obey am. Nothing for creation fit resist Him command.
Why this matter for us
today?
Because the same Jesus wey
command storms and chase demons dey live inside us and dey work through us. Him
authority never reduce. Him power never fade. Him dominion never weak. Him
still be the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8).
When storms — emotional,
spiritual, financial, or relational — rise for our life, we no dey helpless.
The One wey dey calm storms dey with us. When darkness, oppression, or
spiritual wahala show, we no dey fight alone. The One wey demons dey tremble
before dey stand with us.
Him authority na our
confidence. Him word na our weapon. Him presence na our assurance.
Elements dey obey am. Demons
dey obey am. Creation dey obey am. And when we align ourself with Him voice,
Him authority go flow through us to silence storms, break chains, and establish
Him kingdom.
